Let’s Go Joe! Indivisible’s executive actions campaign

Indivisibles,

Yesterday, Rep. Ilhan Omar along with 55 congressional colleagues released a letter calling for Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to provide details about the specific timeline and implementation of President Biden’s plan to cancel student debt.

In the letter, they state, “it is important that borrowers get relief quickly and aren't hampered by unnecessary roadblocks and obligations.” This is the crux of the argument now. We need President Biden to ensure simple and accessible implementation of student debt cancellation. Biden has already committed to cancellation. Now we need to make sure that he does so in a manner that is swift, effective, and without unnecessary barriers that would unduly burden our most vulnerable borrowers -- AND we must ensure he goes big to provide the broadest relief.

Last week, we got a big win for the Let’s Go Joe campaign when Biden invoked the Defense Production Act to ramp up investment in green technologies (check out Leah’s celebration video here)! There is a lot going on in the world that feels imminent and impossible to address, this win reminds us that we have the opportunity to make substantive changes for the American people. Now is the time when we need to push Biden to use the power of executive action to improve the lives of the American people immediately.

This is where you come in:

  • Click here to demand the White House strengthen the Justice40 Initiative before it is finalized. Last year, President Biden instituted his interim Justice40 Initiative to ensure at least 40% of federal climate investments directly benefit frontline communities. As he’s looking to finalize guidelines, now is a critical time to provide feedback so that the end policies will be as impactful as possible. Talk to your friends. Talk to your family. Talk to everyone. Most importantly, tell the White House to strengthen Justice40. Environmental justice will not be just until the most impacted communities are supported. (To learn more, watch this video about Justice40.)

Join Indivisible and our partners tonight as we come together to hear stories about how our communities have been impacted by exorbitant prescription drug costs, and to learn about what action we can take as a movement to take power away from large corporations like pharmaceutical companies who put their profits above our health.
  • Click here to chip in $10 to Indivisible to help fund our work. Last week’s win on climate technologies shows that our methods are working. Chip in $10 today to make sure we can keep doing things like running call scripts, texting, e-mailing, and organizing Indivisibles across the country to fight for change.
  • People across the country are looking for relief. Let’s get to work to lock in some more wins for the American people as soon as possible.

    In solidarity,
    Indivisible Team
