This made me want to fight for animals. Will you help?
Hi there,
When I decided to become a veterinarian, I knew I felt a strong affinity for animals and I wanted to help them. But when I toured a slaughterhouse as part of my training, I was stunned by what I saw.
There’s been numerous times in my life when I couldn’t quite believe this is what we do to animals. Standing in that place full of terrified chickens shackled upside down by their ankles, I remember the feeling of absolute horror.
It was chilling, and not just because of the icy cold environment. All around me, chickens struggled and chirped like babies—which they were, at not even two months old. These living, breathing animals were sent to death in terror, treated like commodities instead of thinking, feeling beings.
We can end this. We must end this.
My time in that slaughterhouse was brief, but there’s no reprieve for the billions of chickens around the world who experience inexcusable cruelty every year.
That day, I made a silent promise to fight for animals. As a veterinarian, I knew I couldn’t bear witness to the suffering of chickens without doing something more to help.
That promise changed my life, and it’s a big reason why I’m connecting with you today. Right now, we have a unique window to fight back. Recent USDA inspector reports from slaughterhouses across the country have detailed horrible practices like birds being thrown, crushed, and even boiled alive.

At the same time, I continue to see headlines about Ventilation Shutdown Plus (VSD+)—an absolutely brutal way to kill lots of animals at once. Alarmingly, the recent Avian Influenza outbreak is accelerating the use of this cruel and unnecessary method, which has already caused over 14 million birds to die in suffocating heat.
As a veterinarian, I unite with those in the veterinary and animal protection communities in fighting to end these practices—arguably the worst abuses inflicted on animals at slaughter. This life-changing work is only possible with the support of caring people like you. . And right now, thanks to a generous donor, your gift will be matched—doubling your impact. But time is running out. Will you join me?
