Hi Friend,

Nice to meet you! My name is Mitchell Carey (he/him), I’m 22, and I’m a text team volunteer with NextGen America. I first became involved in politics in 2016 when I realized that many politicians don’t represent young Americans and don’t invest in our hopes for the future.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, it was horrifying to see our political leaders promote discrimination over equality throughout this country. I knew I needed to get involved. When the 2020 elections started, I discovered NextGen on social media and recognized this was the perfect opportunity to take action.

The lives of people in the LGBTQ+ community are inherently political. We don’t have the luxury to stay on the sidelines because our lives are too often on the line. We are constantly fighting legislation that inhibits our ability to live freely and safely as ourselves.

But we have a voice, and I urge you to use yours. Contact your legislators, volunteer, vote, and do what you can to show up for this community.

I believe that young people are the most interconnected generation in United States history, and I know that in order for real change to happen, we must elect leaders who represent us, our values, and our communities. Most of all, I believe that if young people want change to happen, we must take charge of our futures and get involved in whatever way we can.

So for this Pride month, I’m asking you to join me in taking action.

Will you send a letter to your senators to urge them to pass the Equality Act?

The dangerous far-right majority on the Supreme Court coupled with bigoted Republicans in state legislatures poses a real threat to the safety and rights of the LGBTQ+ community. The Equality Act would provide comprehensive protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity nationwide, essentially carving out LGBTQ+ protections into existing civil rights law.

Send a message: Tell your senators to pass federal protections for all LGBTQ+ people in housing, health care, education, and public accommodations by passing the Equality Act.

Take action

Thanks for your time,

Mitchell Carey
