We The Action Volunteer,

Nearly 80,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in Afghanistan and have sought refuge in the United States. Now, many Afghan families and individuals are facing asylum deadlines critical to building a secure future here. In honor of World Refugee Day - June 20,2022 -  The Welcome Legal Alliance and We The Action are hosting virtual legal clinics to help Afghan evacuees access critical pro bono legal services.

Lawyers are a key resource in this fight and we are inviting lawyers from across the country to rise to the occasion to help meet the urgent legal needs of our Afghan allies. Each of the clinics featured below are single-day opportunities that include training and supervision. You do not need to have any immigration or asylum experience in order to help.

Clinics are taking place all week long during the week of June 20th. Do you have between two and four hours available to help make a difference in the lives of families fleeing Afghanistan? Sign up for one of our projects below.

If you’re not available to participate in one of the World Refugee Day Legal Clinics there are many more ways to help! Click the link here to see a full list of We The Action's immigration projects.

1—5 HOURS

World Refugee Day Clinic 6/22: Assistance with Afghan Special Immigrant Visa Applicants

Human Rights First

Many individuals who were forced to flee Afghanistan fought alongside U.S. allies or worked with the U.S. government and have faced vicious persecution and violence because of their affiliation with the U.S. During this clinic, volunteers will help clients with the SIV process, assisted by mentoring attorneys and resources.

6—10 HOURS

World Refugee Day Clinic 6/23: Legal Screening of Afghan Evacuees

Human Rights First

Help complete screenings to identify viable forms of immigration relief for Afghan evacuees. After receiving training, you will be paired with a client to help with their online screening forms. You will then send a brief summary of the case and the immigration relief they may qualify for, and HRF will connect them with an attorney to represent them.
