2022 TrustLaw Awards
The Committee to Protect Journalists and Allen & Overy won the 2022 TrustLaw Impact Award for developing a ‘Know Your Rights’ guide for journalists covering protests in the U.S.
More than 150 attendees from around the world joined us at the 2022 TrustLaw Awards to celebrate groundbreaking pro bono projects undertaken by legal teams on behalf of NGOs and social enterprises.
Facilitated through TrustLaw, our global pro bono legal service, the winners included the Committee to Protect Journalists and Allen & Overy for a Know Your Rights Guide for Journalists in the U.S. [[link removed]], alongside Women’s Aid and Milbank for a Rail to Refuge Scheme [[link removed]] that provides free train travel for victims of domestic abuse in the UK.
FIND OUT MORE [[link removed]] PACE consortium marks World Day Against Child Labour
As the global community marked World Day Against Child Labour on June 12, the Thomson Reuters Foundation is proud to be part of the Partnership Against Child Exploitation (PACE) consortium.
The consortium operates in the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia, where significant numbers of children are working in some of the worst forms of child labour. PACE draws on expertise from the NGO, media, research and private sectors, as well as local governments and communities, to investigate the issues that contribute to the prevalence of child exploitation, and to identify the most effective strategies for preventing and reducing the scourge.
To date, PACE has trained nearly 4,000 adults and young people on child labour rights, and run business and financial skills workshops for over 3,400 caregivers of children at risk of the worst forms of child labour. The Foundation has leveraged its expertise in international reporting [[link removed]] to raise awareness of the issue, and the consortium recently published a series of child labour situational analyses offering detailed insight into the lives of working children. Antonio Zappulla, CEO of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, makes introductory remarks at the global launch event of the Digital News Report.
The Reuters Institute’s Digital News Report is the most comprehensive study of news consumption worldwide. This year’s report examined topics including the polarisation of news audiences, perceptions of the media coverage of the Ukraine crisis, and how younger people get their news.
The global launch event took place in London on June 15, where our CEO, Antonio Zappulla, made introductory remarks. Since 2006, the Foundation has provided core funding to the Reuters Institute and supported its mission to build better, more sustainable journalism for tomorrow.

Coming soon: TRFilter, an online harassment manager for journalists
In response to the surging tide of online harassment that journalists around the world face every day, we have partnered with Google’s Jigsaw to develop TRFilter – a free web application that enables journalists to mute, block and report abusive comments on Twitter at scale.
We’ll be launching TRFilter in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can register your interest [[link removed]] and be the first to know when the tool is available to use.
Inclusive Economies:What can we learn from the women leading India's electric vehicle (EV) revolution?
In India, women are joining the growing electric vehicle industry in significant numbers.
We went inside the factory of Ather, a major electric scooter company based in India, and spoke to workers, CEOs, and experts across the global EV sector to find out what the rest of the world can learn from India.

Celebrating Pride Month
June is Pride month, where LGBTQ+ culture, history and activism are celebrated. We asked six activists - from Lebanon, Ukraine, Finland, the U.S, Mongolia and Nigeria - to reflect upon the evolution of queer rights in their countries, and the challenges that still need to be overcome. Facilitating legal support to Venezuelan migrants in the Americas
With more than six million migrants, asylum-seekers and refugees from Venezuela, the Americas is facing its greatest migration crisis in recent years. Most of these migrants and asylum-seekers start their journeys without any information, documents, or the required permits to stay in host countries legally.
To address this knowledge gap, TrustLaw connected Un Mundo sin Mordaza - a Venezuelan non-profit working to protect human rights and freedom of expression in the country - with seven law firms. The collaboration resulted in a guide [[link removed]] that summarises the laws and regulations that Venezuelan migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers should follow to legally stay in seven host countries.

Opportunities:
Communications Manager, Communications [[link removed]]: Based in London, this full-time role will support the implementation of the organisation’s internal and external communications efforts. This role will report to the Global Director of Communications.
