A Message from Congresswoman Sherrill

Dear Friends,

Fighting for what’s best for NJ-11 is my top priority in Washington. Last week was no exception. I fought for major gun violence prevention, flood risk mitigation, and water quality improvement legislation that will not only keep residents safe but also improve the quality of life in our towns and communities. Below you can learn more about the bills I passed in the House and the local projects I am supporting.

I also had the pleasure of visiting Picatinny Arsenal twice last week to discuss its economic impact on our state and welcome the new Brigadier General.

I’ve also included information on my office’s upcoming mobile casework event in Chatham Borough. Check out my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to stay up to date with the latest news and updates from my office.

Take care,

Rep. Sherrill Signature

Fighting to End Gun Violence
I proudly voted to pass commonsense gun safety measures like preventing gun trafficking, raising the purchasing age to 21, implementing safe storage measures, and banning high-capacity magazines to protect children and families from firearms in their homes, schools, grocery stores, hospitals, and communities.
Watch my remarks on the House floor here.

I am heartened to see the negotiators in the Senate have reached an agreement on a framework for legislation that will garner bipartisan support. This package does not include everything the House voted on but it is still an incredible step in the right direction to finally get gun violence prevention legislation signed into law. I’m looking forward to seeing the final bill language.

Securing Funding for Flood Prevention
Throughout NJ-11, we have seen the devastating impact that repeat flood events have had on our families, businesses, and communities. That’s why I am proud to share that the Water Resources Development Act passed in the House last week! This bill will deliver key wins for NJ-11 by bringing federal dollars home to tackle key water infrastructure issues, such as flooding, PFAS, and harmful algae blooms.

Supporting Picatinny Arsenal
Picatinny Arsenal is one of the largest employers in NJ-11 and contributes over a billion dollars to New Jersey’s economy every year. As the 2022 NDAA process gets underway, I will be advocating fiercely for our base to ensure it continues to lead in the research critical to our national defense and local economy.

It was my pleasure to help welcome NJEDA CEO Tim Sullivan to Picatinny Arsenal and highlight the importance of Picatinny not only to our national security, but to New Jersey’s economy and workforce.

I was also honored to join Picatinny’s change of command ceremony. Thank you to Brigadier General William M. Boruff for your dedication and service to Picatinny Arsenal and to our country. I look forward to working with Brigadier General John T. Reim Jr. to support the base in the coming year.
