I will always do whatever I can for our veterans .

Our service members are prepared to sacrifice everything for our country. When they return home, we must show them the same commitment and give them the support they need to thrive.

That's why I introduced the Hiring Our Heroes Act in Nassau County, to waive the fee for civil service examinations for all active-duty military and military veterans.

First of all, cost should never be a barrier for our heroes to get good union jobs serving their community .

And second, our communities will benefit from our veterans' dedication, experience, honor, commitment to service, and work ethic. So I couldn't be more thrilled to make these jobs more accessible to veterans; it's a perfect match!

Let me tell you something else exciting about this law. Every single legislator signed on as a co-sponsor for this bill; it passed in committee with overwhelming bipartisan support. Once again, our work here in Nassau County shows how important bringing folks together is – that's how we get things done.

In Congress, I'll continue to reach across the aisle, find common ground, and then turn that into action to serve our veterans, our families, our communities, and our nation.
