Hi
Friend of Trevor,
------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday was an amazing day! President Biden signed a historic executive order showing LGBTQ young people who feel afraid and alone that the White House supports them.
Here’s exactly what the President said:
“Just be you. You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You do belong. And as your President ... we have your back.”
Citing The Trevor Project’s research, this executive order will advance policies and practices that we know save young LGBTQ lives. They include:
* Ending conversion therapy, a range of dangerous, abusive, and discredited practices that attempt to change one’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
* Protecting transgender and nonbinary young people’s access to life-saving, gender-affirming care.
* Investing in suicide prevention and mental health resources for LGBTQ youth.
* Expanding the collection of LGBTQ-inclusive data across the federal government.
At a time when states are pushing through a record number of harmful anti-trans bills, it’s a hopeful sign when the federal government understands the toll of this legislation — and takes concrete steps to protect LGBTQ young people.
My colleague Preston Mitchum and I joined President Biden at the White House signing ceremony along with fellow advocates, families, and allies. And we received many messages of gratitude from White House officials who noted how Trevor’s work — including our 2022 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health ([link removed]) — raises awareness about the unique challenges that LGBTQ young people face.
It was such an honor — and we are so proud! I hope you share our pride, Friend, because our generous community makes our work possible. Together, we’re creating a warmer, more welcoming world for LGBTQ young people.
I hope you’ll pause to celebrate this achievement with Trevor. While the road ahead remains long, moments like this remind me that progress is possible and our collective work is saving lives.
With pride and gratitude,
