Hi John,
We are so excited to be hosting Lumumba Di-Aping, the former UN climate negotiator for the G77 group of global south countries at our national gathering in a few weeks. We are also honoured to be joined by Esther Stanford-Xosei, the long-standing reparations activist and scholar. In a day of panels and workshops, we will come together to discuss what a globally just transition really looks like, and why reparations are necessary for achieving an equitable and sustainable future

As temperatures rise year on year, the whole world is becoming more vulnerable to climate chaos. Yet the worst effects are mostly suffered by those communities who have contributed least to climate breakdown. To have any hope of adapting to a changing climate, while also preventing the crisis from getting even worse, we need a global just transition – but countries in the global south are hamstrung by a world economy that works in the interests of the rich.

Colonialism established the world that gave us climate breakdown, as well as the vast disparity in wealth and power that is compounding climate injustice today. Debt, unequal trade and corporate power are driving inequality, poverty and carbon emissions. That’s why we need reparative climate justice – not just compensating for losses but repairing the damage done by climate change and ending the economic violence that’s driving it.

Join us for an incredible day of panels and workshops as we seek a deep understanding of our current situation, and put our heads together to envision a way out.

Co-organised with Jubilee for Climate, with panels and workshops on:
the case for climate reparations • vaccine inequality • climate and trade • debt and climate justice • mobilising towards a globally just transition.

We look forward to seeing you all in Sheffield on 9 July as we seek to build an environmental movement with justice placed firmly at its heart.
