When I was diagnosed with ALS three years ago, my life with my wife and infant son was shattered. I had so many questions about how to spend the time I had—and I realized that even as ALS was taking so much from me, it was also giving me a powerful opportunity: to make meaning out of this tragedy by fueling it into organizing. Backed by the power of the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD)—and its brilliant, daring, hopeful grassroots network across the country—I could make a powerful push to win a better and more just America for all.

I’ve worked at CPD since its founding in 2012, and I’m so proud of the movement we’ve built over the past seven years. The cumulative effect of CPD’s work is that we have shifted what is possible for our country. We have expanded a vision for a just society in the public square and broadened the resistance to injustice. We have built our capacity and leveraged our growing strength behind this vision.​ This shows us what is possible when we work together and creates a roadmap for the coming year.
