Friend,

Yesterday, Doug LaMalfa took the podium in the U.S. House of Representatives and disgraced himself and Congress. He attempted to deflect attention away from the important work of the January 6th Committee by bringing up the Fox News favorite “caravan at the border” scare tactic. He also )(hypocritically) defended Title 42 -- a health restriction that expels people who have recently been in a country where a communicable disease was present. Just a reminder, LaMalfa opposed every other COVID restriction.

The truth is that Republicans are not interested in defending our democracy, or in ensuring that an attack on Congress like January 6th can ever happen again. Quite the opposite: Republicans like Doug LaMalfa see the attack against Congress as “legitimate political speech.” Their disinterest in the work of the Committee and their attempts to distract voters’ attention makes clear that they consider the tactic appropriate for election losses in the future.

Ever the bootlicking “yes-man,” LaMalfa also defended Trump. He criticized the Committee for “parsing the words of the President,” as if anyone needs to “parse” Trump’s words that directly led to the January 6th riot. To remind you, Trump said "We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore." Those are not the words of a man trying to diffuse tensions or inspire a peaceful protest. Trump knew what he was saying, his listeners knew what he was saying, and LaMalfa knew what he was saying. LaMalfa’s - and other Republicans’ - attempts to muddy the waters here is pure political gaslighting.

Doug LaMalfa does not accept elections that “his side” loses or investigations that make “his side” look bad. His spineless defense of ex-President Trump is a disgrace to our country and to our district. Facts don’t matter. Principles don’t matter. He puts his political party first.

If you're ready to send LaMalfa and others like him packing, chip in a donation to support my campaign today. We just won our primary and are building for a general election fight ahead.
