Dear John,
Last night, yet another Trump-backed Big Lie conspiracy theorist won a Republican nomination for secretary of state, this time in Nevada.
The nominee, Jim Marchant, recently said that voters in Nevada haven't "elected anybody since 2006" because winners "have been installed by the deep state cabal." He openly says he would have certified Trump as the winner in Nevada if he had been secretary of state at the time, despite the fact that Biden won the state by more than 33,000 votes.
This is the man who is lined up to be in charge of counting votes and declaring the winner of the 2024 election — unless we can defeat him in November.
Big Lie election deniers have also been nominated to oversee our elections in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Mexico, and if they win, they will do everything in their power to reinstall Trump in the White House. To stop them, we must overcome the fact that most voters — especially young voters — have no idea who their secretary of state is, or the role they play in overseeing elections.
So here's our plan: We're using our massive social media following on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat to sound the alarm and make sure voters know how important these elections are for the future of our democracy.

As the January 6 committee has laid out in grim detail, Trump's plan in 2020 was to overthrow the election by pressuring state election officials to throw out the popular vote and instead award their states' electoral votes to him.
His plan failed only when secretaries of state in battlegrounds like Georgia and Arizona refused to go along. Secretaries of state are among the most important — and largely overlooked — officials in our democracy. In most states, they oversee our elections, count votes, and formally declare who won.
If Trump can succeed in installing loyalists in these key offices, his next coup attempt may very well succeed.
So, between now and November, we must alert voters about what's at stake — especially young people, who tend to vote less in midterm elections. Inequality Media Civic Action's eye-catching, shareable viral videos are already spreading the word on social media.
But with so much at stake, we need to raise more money than we ever have for any midterm election.
Will you make a donation to Inequality Media Civic Action and help save our democracy from the Trump cronies trying to take over our elections?
Thanks for helping us defend our democracy,
Robert Reich
