I’ve got some bad news. It's the middle of the month, we have filing deadlines fast approaching, and the fundraising numbers we are reporting are the lowest we have seen in a long time.
I truly don’t get it – we’re in the middle of the biggest fight of our lives; the literal survival of our democracy is at stake. But donations are WAY down this month, to the point I’m worried we won’t make it to the midterms.
This is not a time for any of us to sit back and say, “I don’t know, gas prices are kind of high right now and I’m feeling the pinch, I think I’m going to sit this one out.”
Trust me, John , we’re ALL feeling the pinch in our wallets right now. But what if we all just decided, “Political donations are a luxury I can’t afford; I guess I’m going to sit this one out?”
That would be the biggest gift Mitch McConnell has ever received – and it would have been given to him by us , not his fat-cat corporate campaign donors!

Look, campaigning in the summer is hard, because while everybody else takes this time to enjoy themselves, political staffers and candidates are busy sweating it out in poorly air-conditioned offices and campaign buses, subsisting on 3-day-old pizza and instant coffee.
The work we do isn’t glamorous, but it has to be done.
Literally everything is at stake in this year’s midterms, but for some reason I can’t understand, way too many Democrats seem to have tuned out.
That’s why I’m reaching out to you today: To ask you – no, to beg you – to help us get everyone tuned back in. We need leaders like you to step up and contribute – even if it’s just $5, $10, or $20 at a time – and I’m confident the rest will follow suit.
I’ll be sending you a follow-up to this email tomorrow. Either I’ll be sharing the good news that enough folks stepped up to keep our efforts going, or I’ll be writing a much more difficult message outlining the sacrifices we had to make because of budget issues.
