Over the weekend 31 masked members of a white supremacist group were arrested in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho on suspicion of conspiring to riot at the city’s annual Pride event. The citizen caller that raised the alarm told police he’d seen a group “looking like a little army”. In fact they were members of the ‘Patriot Front’ a branch of the ‘Unite the Right’ hate group that led the violent 2017 march in Charlottesville.
But that’s not the end of the story. Personal information identifying the police officers who made the arrests was placed online and today we learned that those officers are receiving death threats.
That’s right; this is madness. And it will get even worse if far-right MAGA candidates win in November and give Republicans control of the Congressional agenda.
Even as the January 6th Committee continues to lay out the damning evidence of Trump’s scheme to overturn the legitimate 2020 election results, right-wing news outlets like Fox have refused to show the hearings and have been busy presenting an alternative reality.
And their propaganda has been effective. Trump-backed candidates are winning at the polls in GOP primaries across the country from South Carolina to Pennsylvania, Ohio, and even New York where GOP Congressman Chris Jacobs decided not to seek re-election after being attacked for supporting commonsense gun safety measures following the hate motivated mass shooting in Buffalo last month.
When non-MAGA Republican candidates are scared out of GOP primaries the message is clear to everyone else in the Republican Party — it’s Trump’s way or the highway.
It’s up to us to make sure these folks don’t come out on top in November.
147 days to go. We need to make every one count.
