Food & Water Action fights every day for strong, permanent federal investment in our water and wastewater infrastructure. And our campaign is rapidly gaining support in Congress!

The Water Affordability Transparency Equity and Reliability (WATER) Act (HR 1352, S916) now has over 100 cosponsors! This is powerful momentum in the fight to improve water quality and promote climate resilience. But there’s more to do to pass this legislation into law.

Join us in organizing to pass the WATER Act, to restore the federal government’s commitment to protecting clean water for every community.

Federal funding is falling way short of what’s needed to upgrade and improve our aging drinking water and wastewater systems. Without dedicated funding for these projects, many communities lack the resources to keep their water clean and safe.

The WATER Act will provide $35 billion annually to restore the nation’s public water infrastructure:

💧 $15.2 billion a year to the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to upgrade and improve drinking water systems, including removing lead pipes and treating PFAS contamination;
💧 $15.7 billion a year to the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to pay for publicly-owned wastewater system upgrades;
💧 $1.1 billion a year to fix drinking water infrastructure in schools, including replacing lead pipes and fixtures.
💧 $1.2 billion a year to help update and install household septic systems and household wells;
💧 $1.4 billion to protect drinking water sources from pollution; and
💧 $349 million a year for technical assistance to rural, small and Indigenous wastewater and drinking water providers.

Tell Congress to pass the WATER Act. It’s time to fully fund our drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, help clean up our waterways and protect our communities.

People shouldn't have to worry about whether their water is safe to drink or if their sewers are one storm away from failing.

Our outdated wastewater systems are dumping billions of gallons of raw sewage into our waterways, flooding streets and neighborhoods, and contaminating our drinking water. And climate change is making matters worse. We can’t afford any delay when it comes to preventing another dangerous mess from flooding our streets.

It’s time for Congress to step up and prioritize infrastructure improvements. Join me in urging our elected representative to fight for better drinking water and wastewater infrastructure for future generations.
