As a leaked draft U.S. Supreme Court opinion makes clear, Roe v. Wade is very likely on the verge of being overruled.

Wisconsin has a 19th-century abortion ban that was never repealed that could criminalize most abortions in Wisconsin if Roe is overturned. And access to abortion isn’t just at risk in Wisconsin – it’s in danger in many states around the country.

If Wisconsin’s 19th-century abortion ban is found to be enforceable, I will not use Wisconsin Department of Justice resources to investigate or prosecute anyone for violations of that harmful law.

Criminalizing abortion won’t end it where it’s outlawed. It will prevent women from obtaining safe abortions and put lives at risk.
