New Orleans DSA - Weekly Update

Hey Y'all,

Right now our Convention Planning Committee is sending all of our members an informational packet for the 2022 Annual Chapter Convention which will take place June 25th at noon. You can check out the Convention Hub for more information or contact us directly at [email protected] This our biggest event of the year and member participation is crucial to our democratic process! Not a member yet? Join Us!

Today our City Council's Criminal Justice Committee will be hearing and voting on Ord. 33,639, which would expand the use of surveillance tools including facial recognition. Because this is a committee meeting, if it passes out of committee, it will follow a full council vote. Members need to jump in and be ready for when that happens. What you can do now —
  1. Follow Eyes On Surveillance on Twitter/Insta for more information and future actions.
  2. Familiarize yourself with Ordinance 33,639 and its harms, and get opposition statements prepared now for future in-person or online mass commenting.
  3. Email opposition TODAY to all city council members!

Lastly, hurricane season is here and the best time to get prepared is today. You can plug in with other members to stay in touch and help each other by filling out This Form. We keep us safe!

Solidarity,
New Orleans DSA Local Council
