As Republicans and Senators in Congress negotiate the passing of gun restrictions with H.R. 7910, I am calling on Americans to unite in ensuring that elected officials do nothing to begin the process of eroding the principle of the 2nd Amendment.
Our forefathers designed the 2nd Amendment to allow its citizens to be called on by the state they live in to bring guns to protect against any foreign invasion when the government cannot. They never envisioned that the foreign invasion would be our own federal government.

H.R. 7910 is multi-faceted in its infringement of 2nd Amendment rights; for one, it raises the age limit to purchase specific firearms to 21. Now youth can purchase any firearm three years after they are eligible to take a vow to serve our country as a soldier. The bill outlines how all guns must be secured in your private home. Congress also added a provision in the bill that offers grants to states that will pass Red Flag laws.
Red Flag laws will allow anyone to make an allegation against another citizen and force law enforcement to seize all firearms until the allegations are proven false. The burden of proof will then fall on the citizen, not the government. Legal fees will fall on the citizen. Responsibility for seizing, storing, securing, and returning the firearms will be an added burden on law enforcement funded by taxpayer dollars.
These massive violations prevent due process for American citizens.
There are additional components of the legislation, and then there’s a small focus dealing with the central issue of Mental Health.
Congress should pass a straightforward bill dealing with the mental health crisis in our country, and leave our 2nd Amendment - which they have no authority over - alone!
