John –

Last night, a 16-year-old and her younger sister were carjacked at gunpoint in Golden Valley. No one that young should experience the fear of being held at gunpoint.

Guns and violent crime aren't just a Minneapolis problem. Every community in Hennepin County is affected and last night is just another example of why we need to address it urgently. People in our county and state deserve and demand to be safe.

We need to improve the investigation tools that police departments use, coordinate across jurisdictions, share data, and look for patterns of criminal activity. The work our new U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger is doing to stem the tide of violent crime and get guns off the streets is what we need. I will partner with his office and use the resources of our county to help this effort.

We also need early intervention programming for our youth to help their mental health, education and job prospects. The entire community needs to be involved in solving this problem. No one can fix this alone.

Reigning in violent crime, getting guns off our streets and turning around the lives of troubled youths are all going to take a community commitment to see the results we need. I will keep leading the way, but I can't do it alone.

Will you join us? Add your name here to show us you will be a part of the community team. [link removed]

Thank you,

Ryan
