John –

I take my job in Congress very seriously. I took an oath to uphold the Constitution and defend our rights, freedoms and democracy.

As one of the core pillars of our government, the Supreme Court is also supposed to uphold and protect the Constitution. It is supposed to secure the promise of equal justice under the law.

After the recent leak of SCOTUS’ draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, Justice Clarence Thomas wondered “how long we’re going to have these institutions at the rate we’re undermining them.” He later added, “When you lose that trust, especially in the institution that I’m in, it changes the institution fundamentally.”

I’m glad Justice Thomas realizes the sanctity of the Supreme Court has been breached, but his concern is focused on the wrong scandal.

As we watch the House January 6th Committee hearings, we are learning more about Thomas’ wife, Ginni Thomas, and her role in the attack on our Capitol and the seditious conspiracy to overthrow the election results.

Ginni Thomas not only attended the January 6th march on the Capitol but exchanged text messages with then-Trump Administration Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, echoing the same white Christian nationalism ideologies that have violently divided the United States. She even went so far as to pressure 29 Arizona lawmakers to reverse Joe Biden’s win in that key state.

The Supreme Court has already played a role in the investigation into January 6th – when Justice Thomas was the lone dissenting vote favoring Trump’s attempt to block the release of presidential records – and almost certainly will again in the coming months. If justice is truly to be served, the Court must remain impartial and unhindered by conflicts of interest.

If you ask me, that hypocrisy is what threatens the sanctity of the institution, not a leaked draft opinion that seeks to upend fundamental rights and devastate the lives of countless Americans.

Please add your name to join the call for Justice Thomas to preserve what remains of our trust in the Supreme Court by recusing himself from any Court business relating to the insurrection.

The leaked Roe decision will have far-reaching consequences. Yet, SCOTUS seems more focused on preserving its image rather than acknowledging the true threat to impartiality posed by Ginni Thomas’ involvement in January 6th.

Everyone involved must be held accountable for facilitating and supporting the white nationalist attack on our Capitol. Justice Clarence Thomas cannot remain impartial in matters relating to the attacks that may come before the Supreme Court. He must recuse himself. Add your name if you agree.

Together we can continue standing in defense of equal justice and freedom for all.

Thanks,
Jared
