Right now, Americans are struggling to pay for skyrocketing gas prices. You’ve probably heard that high prices at the pump have been caused by the war in Ukraine. Because companies ceased operations in Russia, it theoretically costs more for these companies to produce gas – so they raise prices. Well, that’s only half the truth.
The reality is, oil and gas companies are using this political moment to price gouge and make higher profits than ever. Take Chevron for example: After ceasing operations in Russia and seeing only moderate economic fallout, the company raised its prices so much that Chevron made higher profits last quarter than it has in a decade.
It’s clear that the oil and gas industry’s greed is costing the American people. That’s why Civic Action is calling on Congress to pass Rep. Ro Khanna and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse’s bill to tax price-gouging by oil and gas companies and provide Americans with a rebate. Will you sign on now to stop price gouging?
The idea behind this bill is simple: Tax oil and gas companies on their markups. Then, give that money right back to the American people to help struggling families fill their tanks up with gas. It’s estimated that the revenue raised by this tax would work out to a $300 quarterly check to every American household earning less than $150,000 annually.
This is exactly the bold legislation we need to stop corporate greed. It’s also good for the economy. Americans shouldn’t have to go broke paying for gas just because Big Oil is using an international crisis to jack up their prices and pad their profit margins.

Please, sign on now to support the tax on Big Oil – and put money back in Americans’ pockets.
