Three years ago, we knew we had a major challenge in front of us: As chilling political forces took hold, we needed to figure out how to keep moving the needle and building support for LGBTQ equality in the South.
Our work in 2019 tells a story of what change looks like in the South right now.
In March, we worked directly with middle and high school students as they advocated for trans-inclusive policies in their public schools. In August we celebrated as NC Governor Roy Cooper signed an executive order restricting public funding for conversion therapy, months after the launch of our Protect Our Youth NC campaign, a partnership with Equality NC. In November we released the findings of our Southern LGBTQ Health Survey, providing a new breadth and depth of insight into how our community experiences health care.

Every week this year, our team registered new voters. Every week, we trained health care providers in how to provide LGBTQ affirming care. Every week, we provided direct funding and training to a new generation of grassroots LGBTQ leaders. This is how you build legal and lived equality in the South over the long-term in the South.
Your donation will go toward making more of this happen in 2020. That means training doctors, nurses and clinic staff in how to provide respectful, affirming health care to LGBTQ people. That means campaigning to pass a statewide bill protecting LGBTQ minors from conversion therapy in NC. That means working every day to build a South where all LGBTQ youth are met with love and acceptance.
We’re pushing for equality in every sphere of life. This is what Southern organizing looks like as we head into 2020, a time when the stakes could not be higher in our country. Please add your support with a donation today, on Giving Tuesday.
Thank you so much,
