Hi there, Congresswoman Hayes here reaching out to share on our pivotal House race in Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District.

This district is a purple 50/50 split that Republicans have had their eyes on for years because it holds some of the darkest red parts of what is otherwise considered a reliably blue state. It’s the ONLY toss-up district in Connecticut, and the Cook Political Report just downgraded our race to be more favorable for the GOP in the 2022 midterm elections.

So I won’t sugarcoat it… we need to keep this seat. If we have any chance of holding the House majority, I must win this race. Yet, national Republicans are going all-in to flip my district. The Congressional Leadership Fund, the super PAC endorsed by Leader Kevin McCarthy and House Republican leadership, recently announced an ad reservations of $1.75 million in CT for the 2022 election cycle.

The GOP believes that if they win this race, they will take control of the House. That’s why National Republican groups like the RNC and NRCC have made me their target this November and that’s why they’ll stop at nothing to unseat me.

For example: The Republican National Committee has opened a Headquarters in Connecticut for the first time ever , and it’s in my district. They’re already spending millions on attack ads to spread misinformation and trying to bury the work I’ve done. The spending started early, and they have promised to ramp it up in the next few months.

They want me gone, but I’m not going anywhere.

With our civil rights, voting rights and reproductive rights on the line, Democrats cannot afford to lose a single seat in our razor-thin majority. This race in CT-05 will help decide who holds the majority in Congress. This race will help decide how we as a country go on reproductive rights, voting rights, gun reform, accessible and affordable healthcare, and so much more.
