News from Representative Allred

Dear Friend,

Over the past few weeks, as our country experienced a tragic wave of mass shootings, I have heard from many North Texans about the need for gun safety reform. I wanted to take a moment to see where you stand.

Do you support gun safety reform like universal background checks, red flag laws to keep guns away from dangerous individuals and raising the minimum gun purchasing?

yes Image

Inaction is not an option, we must do more to save innocent lives. Last week, I helped pass two pieces of bipartisan, commonsense gun safety legislation. With support from both parties, the House passed the Protecting Our Kids Act, which would raise the age to purchase firearms from 18 to 21, ban large capacity magazines and crack down on illegal firearm purchases. We also passed the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act Law which would make it easier for law enforcement and household members to keep guns away from folks who pose a threat to themselves or others.

Over the weekend, the Senate announced they reached a bipartisan agreement on gun safety that incentivizes red flag laws, strengthens background checks, cracks down on illegal purchases and bolsters mental health support. While it doesn’t include everything we're striving for, the provisions in this proposal will save lives and help reduce gun violence. There is more work to do, but it's critical we get this across the finish line and send this proposal to President Joe Biden’s desk.

Sincerely,
