President Biden has a historic opportunity to help address America's legacy of racial injustice by creating a commission to develop reparations proposals for Black Americans.

Today, we're asking you to stand in solidarity with allies in the racial and environmental justice movements by supporting this historic initiative. Will you join us in taking action?

Goal: 5,000 Letters to President Biden

Friend —

In just a few days, we will celebrate Juneteenth — a day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States — which was first declared a federal holiday last year.

The legacy of Juneteenth reminds us that none are free until all are free. Even today, Black people in this country continue to suffer from slavery's shameful legacy including economic discrimination, police violence, and disproportionate environmental harms like exposure to pollution and unsafe drinking water.

President Biden has a historic opportunity to establish a federal commission by executive order to examine the impacts of the legacy of slavery and recommend proposals to provide reparations to Black Americans. Today, we're calling on all LCV members to support this critical step toward righting the wrongs of slavery while tackling structural racism that endures in our country today.

As has always been the case in the fight for racial justice, progress has powerful opponents. It's going to take the support of people like you to support President Biden in taking this historic action.

Take action today. We have set a goal to deliver 5,000 letters from environmentalists like you to the White House before Juneteenth, this coming Sunday. Please, send your letter now >>

At LCV, we build political power for people and the planet. Yet political power is not equitably distributed in our country and never has been — the racism that is so deeply embedded in our country means that Black and other marginalized communities are more impacted by climate change, breathe more polluted air, face greater barriers to voting, and have been habitually excluded from the spaces where decisions are made.

Bottom line: environmental justice, climate justice, racial justice — these are not separate fights. They are directly connected. If we're going to equitably build power for people and the planet, it means we need to intentionally dismantle these racist structures and their legacies.

Join us in taking action today. Don't miss out on this historic opportunity to show solidarity with the movement for racial justice at this critical time. Send your letter now >>

As Juneteenth approaches, now is our chance to support President Biden in creating a commission on reparations. Thank you, sincerely, for continuing to fight for what's right.

Onward,
