Let’s be clear: This is a big win for Louisianians, especially for Black Louisianians who would have been denied the opportunity to elect their preferred candidates under the GOP’s manipulated map. This decision also shows the important role of courts in preventing gerrymanders. When we heard that Republicans planned to use the 2022 elections to stack state courts with judges who they think will approve their manipulated maps, we sprang into action to protect our critical independent judiciary.
Tomorrow, we’ll be announcing another strategy through which the NDRC is getting involved in the 2022 elections. We’re planning to target races in more than a dozen states – including judicial races – that will impact the future of fair redistricting and our democracy.
