News from Representative Lauren Underwood

June 15, 2022

Dear Friend,

Climate change is one of the most important issues for young people. That’s why I invited Secretary Pete Buttigieg to meet with my trusted Youth Transportation Advisor, Rowan, a 3rd grader from North Aurora who loves the environment – he even composts!

The Secretary and I joined Rowan, along with some of his friends, to check out a new electric school bus. While seeing the new bus in action, we heard Rowan’s ideas on how we can combat climate change, protect the environment, and create a brighter energy future for kids like him.

Young leaders like Rowan show us just how bright our future can be. Secretary Pete Buttigieg and I shared how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is working to create a more sustainable future. Students not only visited a new electric school bus, but we also discussed plans to replace thousands of transit vehicles with cleaner vehicles that will combat climate change and protect the environment.

Protecting the environment is essential for our community’s health and quality of life. I am working in Congress to fight climate change by:

  • Passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which invests $17 billion for infrastructure projects that prioritize climate resilience.
  • Introducing the Farmers Fighting Climate Change Act, which would provide $78.3 million to support farmers and promote agricultural practices that reduce greenhouse gases.
  • Introducing the Climate and Health Protection Act, which would provide $110 million to equip state and local groups with the data, expertise, and resources they need to protect their communities from the effects of climate change.

Sincerely,
