With Chairman Takano’s leadership of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, the work of Democrats in Congress to create jobs for our veterans has resulted in a record high veterans’ employment rate, House passage of “burn pits” legislation that provides veterans with cancer the care and support they have earned, and new suicide prevention resources to help save the lives of our veterans.

The first openly gay Asian American elected to Congress, Chairman Takano is committed to equality and opportunity for all – including in all aspects of our military. We are grateful for the opportunity to talk to him about the sustained focus of our President and of Democrats in Congress on remedying the harmful legacy and consequences of policies like DADT and DOMA on our servicemembers, veterans and their families with thoughtful implementation of new policies to ensure full LGBTQ inclusion and equality in our military.
