This week, I voted to level the playing field for Texas families and small businesses by cracking down on sky high shipping fees.

Unfair shipping practices raise the cost of key goods, from essential groceries to appliances and electronics.

Passed with strong bipartisan support, the Ocean Shipping Reform Act will boost American competitiveness, promote fairness in global shipping and help keep products on the shelf across Texas. 

This legislation now heads to the President’s desk for signature.

I had a meaningful conversation with Matthew McConaughey discussing Uvalde and how we can work together to keep Texan, and American, families safe. Texans can pave the way for national reforms. Hook ‘Em Horns.

I met with members of the Rio Grande International Study Center (RGISC) to discuss the Binational River Park in Laredo. A big thank you to Tricia Cortez and the rest of her team for coming up to DC. 

I met with students representing the Close Up Foundation, an organization that brings teachers and students to our nation's capital to experience first-hand the political process. Adrian, Isabella, Estrella, Sofia, and Itzel are all scholars from Laredo. 

I attended a meeting with different local entities including school districts, city, county, and state officials, and law enforcement to discuss various preparedness strategies and have an open dialogue about contingency plans in case of emergencies. Thank you State Representative Richard Raymond for hosting the meeting. 

Alex Sarabia and Isaac Medina invited me to be on their show, RGV Stars, to discuss my career and what motivated me to dedicate my life to public service. 

My San Antonio Outreach Coordinator, Arturo Olivarez, attended a Bipartisan Infrastructure Law event with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the San Antonio Water System (SAWS).

My Laredo Outreach Coordinator, Melissa Peña, attended a proclamation by Mayor of Laredo, Pete Saenz, at NeighborWorks Laredo. The mayor proclaimed the week of June 4-11, 2022, as NeighborWorks week.

My Rio Grande Valley Outreach Coordinator, Nicolas Cruz, visited the Blasfemus Distillery in Roma. Blasfemus opened nearly a year ago to produce all-natural and locally distilled spirits.

Melissa presented Juan Arredondo, LBJ High School parent and United ISD employee, with a Congressional Certificate of Recognition in honor of being named Region One GEAR UP 2021-2022 Local Family Champion.
