We're just $40 shy of our filing fee. We need a couple of people to kick in $20 donations and then we're set. Remember, our campaign is refusing money from corporations, billionaires, lobbyists and super PACs. In a time when corporate money has been blocking progress for decades, we need leaders who aren't taking the money.

Here are my opening remarks at a Progressive Democrats of Benicia endorsement meeting, which my opponent did not attend. He asked Benicia Mayor Elizabeth Patterson to be his surrogate.

Lockheed Martin is a weapons manufacturer which will make more than $7 billion this year. Their CEO, Marillyn A. Hewson made $21.5 million in salary this year. Lockheed Martin is one of the border security contractors which have been lobbying the Trump administration for tighter border security for years. Lockheed Martin profits from the crimes being committed at the border and from war, and they have made 43 donations to Mike Thompson, totaling over $72,000. What do you think they got in return for their money?

Credit Suisse is a Swiss bank, worth about $4 billion a year. Credit Suisse held, and probably still holds, treasure the Nazis looted from Jews. Credit Suisse was also directly connected to the 2008 housing crash. Their CEO, Tidjane Thiam, made a $12.7 million salary in 2018. Credit Suisse has made 7 donations to Mike Thompson, totaling $14,500. So when we talk about foreign interference, this is legal with a registered PAC. And what do you think a Swiss bank got for their investment?

Takeda Pharmaceuticals is the largest pharmaceutical company in Asia with $19.29 billion in profits last year. Takeda recently lost $2.37 billion and $9 billion lawsuits because their diabetes drug, Actos, was shown to cause bladder cancer, but Takeda refused to recall it, even in the face of lawsuits, complaints and other countries banning the medication. Takeda paid its CEO Cristophe Webber a cool $10.9 million in 2018. Takeda has made 2 donations of $1000 each to Mike Thompson. Why does a Japanese pharmaceutical company donate money to U.S. politicians?

DaVita is a for-profit kidney dialysis center. In 2018 they took in $11.4 billion. They paid their CEO, Kent Thiry (who retired earlier this year) $32 million per year. DaVita owns about 40% of the 7000 dialysis centers in the country. According to ProPublica America has "one of the industrialized world's highest mortality rates for dialysis care". And indeed, DaVita has been accused of numerous unethical business practices in settled lawsuits, including using more drugs than are necessary, in order to get a higher payout from the government and understaffing their centers. DaVita has donated 9 times to Mike Thompson, a total of $19,500, the most recent was last year when California voted on proposition 8, which would have capped the revenue of dialysis centers, making dialysis more affordable and encouraging centers like DaVita to fully staff their clinics. Are these donations the reason our elected Representative didn't take a position?

This campaign is a campaign of the people, for the people and by the people. As such, it is funded by individual donations from people just like you. We do not accept corporate donations or money from lobbyists or super PACs.
