Beginning tomorrow, American Values will launch its year-end fundraising campaign. I confess that fundraising is one of my least enjoyable responsibilities, but year-end donations account for the bulk of our annual budget.
We NEED a strong year-end showing to ensure that we are fully prepared for the critical year ahead. The funds we raise in the next 29 days will determine what we can do in the crucial 2020 decision year.
I am not happy about it, but we found over the years that asking for support once or twice just does not work. I would be thrilled if it did, but it doesn't. Many people often miss the messages, and I know many other groups are asking too. It's like advertising on TV or the radio -- a message has to be run multiple times before it gets noticed.
But I can honestly say that you get more bang for your buck with our lean operation than virtually anywhere else. Our success is the result of decades of experience here in our nation's capital fighting for our values.
I know how much many of you depend on and appreciate our "End of Day" reports. But there is so much more that we do at American Values. For example:
- I have been appointed twice by President Trump to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom so I can fight for you on this critical issue.
- I have earned a reputation as a good wordsmith and I am regularly asked by high-level administration officials for input on the key issues they are working on and the speeches they are delivering.
- Not many leaders of conservative groups have actually served in government. I did for eight years. I know how the system works. That's why I am regularly asked to come to the White House to participate in working meetings on a wide range of issues.
- Members of Congress regularly call American Values to get our input and help.
- Political appointees in multiple government agencies, trying to keep their left-wing bureaucracies under control, seek my advice and counsel because I had to do that at the Department of Education for six years.
- When a Supreme Court vacancy opens up, we're one of the first calls the White House makes to mobilize grassroots activists and develop strategies because Washington still remembers that I ran the Citizens Committee to Confirm Clarence Thomas.
Thank you, my friends, for your prayers and support throughout 2019. I hope I can continue to count on you in the days and weeks ahead.
