T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST

Submissions accepted: November 4, 2019 - December 15, 2019

Winner announced: January 18, 2020

The theme for this t-shirt design contest is GOTV (Get Out the Vote.) What are ways we can remind our community to vote? Why is it important to vote? What does voting

mean? Your design should be clear, easy to understand, and incorporate the OCA logo, anyhow you’d like, somewhere on the shirt. (Download logo here ([link removed]) .) You may change the colors of the logo, but must keep ADVOCATE under the OCA graphic. Your design should have no more than 2 ink colors. (You may specify the color shirt your design should appear on.)

Please send your 8.5”x11” (2550 x 3300 pixels) design in high quality PNG/JPG, Ai, or PDF file, along with a short paragraph on your design process, to Thu Nguyen at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) . These t-shirts will be printed for the 2020 OCA Convention. By submitting your design, you are agreeing to allow OCA full printing rights if you win the contest.

OCA Civil Rights Fellowship
The OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates Civil Rights Fellowship is a national advocacy fellowship based at the OCA National Center in Washington DC, which mobilizes OCA’s chapter networks across the country to support the building of individual and community capacity for the advancement of civil rights for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

The key components of this program include:
* Collaborating with career nonprofit, government, and hill professionals working in public policy and civil rights.
* Advocating for AAPI civil rights issues within OCA’s policy priorities of education, immigration, technology and workforce, racial equity, and civic engagement.
* Supporting the signature JACL/OCA Leadership Summit.

The fellow will build policy and advocacy expertise through hands-on experience with influential and experienced staff, colleagues, and organizational partners in the nation’s capital. During the one-year term, the OCA Civil Rights Fellow works to address some of the most pressing issues that challenge AAPI communities today.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: January 5, 2020

Here's what we worked on in November!

+ OCA led the AAPI Tech Table to complete overarching advocacy principles on tech privacy, anti-discrimination, digital inclusion, and the future of work. The entire table will meet again tomorrow to vote to publish these principles!

+ Gathering an OCA-led NCAPA coalition to send a letter to Congress in support of FUTURE Act and AANAPISI funding.

+ Strategizing on possible legislation for school data privacy and the protection of immigrant families.

+ Embarking on a new storytelling project, capturing the journeys of AAPI immigrants and mixed-status families.

+ Finalizing our long-awaited OCA State Voter Toolkits and sending them out to chapter contacts this week! If you're in one of these states (CA, MN, MO, NV, NY TX, UT, WA, or WI) but haven't contacted Maddie yet, please do so and they will send you your state's toolkit.

+ Signed onto the following:
1. A letter to the White House calling for the removal of White Supremacist Stephen Miller
2. A letter to Congress requesting they restore Medicaid to COFA immigrants, many of whom are Pacific Islanders.
3. A comment calling for strong civil rights and disaggregated data collection for the best educational outcomes.
4. A platform for comprehensive voting rights reform.
5. A comment calling for the FCC to collect industry-wide employment statistics as required by law.

+ Successfully rolled out our Chinese American Racial Profiling toolkit and are currently building a coalition comprised of the ACLU, the Brennan Center, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice - AAJC.
