Senate Primaries See Nevada As Key Battleground State in November
NBC: Former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt has won the state’s Republican Senate primary. Laxalt advances to the general election against the Democratic incumbent, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, who beat back primary challengers Tuesday night. The general election between Cortez Masto, the first Latina elected to the Senate, and Laxalt is expected to be one of the most competitive in the U.S. and could determine control of the chamber this fall ( NBC). PBS: Katrina Christiansen, a political newcomer and University of Jamestown engineering professor, defeated a largely unknown challenger in the Democratic primary, Fargo art and antiques dealer Michael Steele. U.S. Sen. John Hoeven easily won North Dakota’s Republican primary Tuesday, and is set to face a Democrat in November who has raised a fraction of his $3.2 million in campaign funds. Hoeven is seen as a shoo-in in November in the highly conservative state. Hoeven won both of his previous Senate terms with more than 76 percent of the vote ( PBS). South Carolina’s GOP incumbent Tim Scott ran unopposed while his democrat opponent is yet to be nominated ( CNN).

NY Democrat Jamaal Bowman Warns of “Civil War” if Republicans Win Midterms
New York Post: Progressive Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman warned of a stark outcome if Republicans take back power in the November midterm elections — one that would “embolden” far-right extremists and white nationalists who he claims “have been pushing” for “civil war.” During a Saturday interview with MSNBC’s “The Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross,” the Bronx-Westchester member of the congressional “Squad” led by socialist darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed Republicans will quickly take action to halt Democratic progress in the investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, saying the House select committee’s findings would be “completely suppressed” ( New York Post). RNC Research: UNHINGED: Far-left Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman says Republican victories in November would lead to “civil war” ( Twitter). Spencer Brown: It was radical leftists who laid siege to American cities destroying lives, homes, and businesses, and it was the Democrats — including President Biden — who treated entire swaths of the country as the enemy for choosing not to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Bowman’s depiction of those who vote for Republican candidates also paints them all as racist bigots, and not as they truly are: Americans fed up with runaway inflation trying to make ends meet, who want their neighborhoods and country to be safe from lawless individuals, and who are looking to install a check on President Biden’s power and agenda that’s not succeeded at building back better ( Townhall).

Poll: Americans Against Trans Athletes in Female Women’s
Washington Post: Even as an increasing share of Americans report familiarity with and tolerance for transgender people, most oppose allowing transgender female athletes to compete against other women at the professional, college and high school level, according to a Washington Post-University of Maryland poll. The poll, conducted May 4 through 17 among 1,503 people across the United States, finds 55 percent of Americans opposed to allowing transgender women and girls to compete with other women and girls in high school sports and 58 percent opposed to it for college and professional sports. About 3 in 10 Americans said transgender women and girls should be allowed to compete at each of those levels, while an additional 15 percent have no opinion ( Washington Post). Townhall: The poll asked respondents follow-up questions regarding transgender women competing in women’s sports. Sixty-eight percent of the respondents said that transgender girls would have a competitive advantage over biological girls in sports. Two percent said biological girls would have a competitive advantage over transgender girls. Thirty percent said neither would have an advantage ( Townhall).

New Hires of Ben & Jerry’s Required to Watch Anti-Israel Propaganda
Daily Wire: Ben & Jerry’s, which has demonstrated its hostility to the state of Israel in the past, has reportedly required new employees to watch video lectures featuring Palestinian activists lying about the Jewish state ( Daily Wire). Jewish Insider: The videos are part of what the ice cream company dubbed “Scooper Series: Social Mission” and address racism in the U.S. and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to an employee who viewed the videos. In a portion of one of the videos, which was reviewed by JI, Omar Shakir, who serves as Human Rights Watch’s Israel and Palestine director, attempts to explain Israel’s policies vis-a-vis the Palestinians. “If you look at the recent escalation that took place in May of 2021, it started over discriminatory efforts to force Palestinians out of their homes in occupied East Jerusalem as part of this larger policy,” Shakir says in the video. Shakir, who was expelled from Israel in 2019, had reportedly counseled the Ben & Jerry’s board last year, ahead of the ice cream company’s decision to stop selling its products in what it referred to as “Occupied Palestinian Territory” ( Jewish Insider).

Democrats Urge Party Leaders to Help Curtail Obamacare Premium Hikes
Business Insider: A large group of House Democrats are stepping up pressure on party leaders to revive their stalled economic agenda and avoid hitting voters with huge healthcare bills only weeks before the November midterms. Fifty-seven members of the centrist New Democrat coalition led by Rep. Suzan DelBene of Washington signed a letter meant to highlight the steep health insurance premium increases that many people would face if a pandemic-era financial assistance program expires in December. The cohort included many Democratic lawmakers locked in tight re-election races this fall. Under the stimulus law last year, Democrats bulked up federal subsidies to cut monthly premiums for millions of Americans purchasing individual health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The move led to many lower-income Americans paying little or nothing for health coverage. Many middle-class families qualified for generous federal assistance for the first time. If Democrats fail to revive a reconciliation bill extending the enhanced subsidies past year’s end, major price hikes often totaling hundreds of dollars will hit 13 million Americans during a punishing stretch of inflation. Three million people would also lose their health insurance, according to the Department of Health and Human Services ( Business Insider). John Solomon: As inflation spirals, Biden and congressional Democrats try to avert Obamacare premium spikes ( Twitter). Just the News: Obamacare premiums have been skyrocketing for years. In 2013, the year before Obamacare’s main requirements took effect, the average monthly individual market premium was $242. In 2019, that figure rose by 143% to $589. Critics note the cost of health care is still going up and argue the full costs still need to be paid regardless — the subsidies just make it so the government foots more of the premium bill, putting the onus ultimately on future taxpayers ( Just the News).

Starbucks Threatening to Remove Gender-Affirming Care if Stores Unionize
CNBC: Starbucks is telling its baristas that unionizing could jeopardize the gender-affirming health care coverage for transgender employees that the company offers, according to a complaint filed with the federal labor board. The complaint comes after more than 100 of the coffee chain’s 9,000 U.S. cafes have voted to unionize under Workers United in the last seven months. Under interim CEO Howard Schultz, Starbucks has been trying to counter the union push by emphasizing the potential shortcomings of collective bargaining, such as federal labor laws that prohibit the company from unilaterally hiking wages across unionized cafes without contract negotiations ( CNBC). Daily Wire: Starbucks has covered gender reassignment surgery since 2013. Four years ago, Starbucks broadened the insurance to “a host of procedures that were previously considered cosmetic” — including breast reduction or augmentation surgery, facial feminization, and hair transplants… Beyond transgender surgery, Starbucks reacted to the Supreme Court’s leaked majority opinion overturning Roe v. Wade by offering employees and their dependents reimbursements when traveling over 100 miles from the employee’s home for an abortion. The company also reaffirmed its offerings of paid leave for adoption, surrogacy, and fertility treatments, as well as free mental health and counseling sessions ( Daily Wire).

Jan 6 Committee Postpones Wednesday’s Hearings
Fox News: The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol postponed its Wednesday hearing and will instead hold its third public hearing on Thursday. Committee member Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., told Fox News the delay was due to “technical issues,” and not an issue with witnesses. The committee held a primetime hearing last week, followed by a hearing on Monday. “Yeah, it’s just technical issues,” Lofgren told Fox when questioned about the postponement. “I mean, we were, you know, the staff putting together all the videos, you know…It was overwhelming, so we’re trying to give them a little room” ( Fox News). Breitbart: The postponement comes after committee members disagreed Monday evening on whether or not former President Donald Trump would be referred to the Justice Department (DOJ) on criminal charges ( Breitbart).

President Biden Snaps At Critics Who Question His Administration’s Spending
Breitbart: President Joe Biden appeared angry about criticism of his multi-trillion dollar agenda causing inflation, boasting he was helping Americans suffering from the coronavirus pandemic. “I don’t want to hear any more of these lies about reckless spending,” Biden cried. “We’re changing people’s lives!” The president delivered a fiery speech at an AFL-CIO union conference in Philadelphia about the state of the economy as his approval ratings continue falling ( Breitbart). Katie Pavlich: You’re changing people’s lives alright…for the worse ( Twitter). Independent Journal Review: Inflation was starting to rise before Biden stepped into the White House. But he quickly pushed through his ill-advised $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, which economists estimate added between two and four percentage points to inflation. The consumer price index rose 8.6% in May compared to the same month last year, marking the fastest pace of price increases since Dec. 1981 ( Independent Journal Review).

Young Americans Forgo Saving Money Post-COVID
Daily Wire: Young investors are behind on their retirement savings as economic fallout continues from COVID-19 and the lockdown-induced recession. The most recent State of Retirement Planning study from financial services company Fidelity shows that the turmoil of the past two years has disrupted many Americans’ savings behavior. Overall, one in four respondents are now “less confident than they were before the events of the past two years” — even though 79% are still confident that they can retire when and how they want. However, 55% of “Next Gen” — which the study defines as Americans between the ages of 18 and 35 — said that they placed their retirement plans on hold during COVID-19, and 45% do not “see a point in saving until things return to normal.” Therefore, 39% “plan to retire later” due to their inaction ( Daily Wire). Fidelity: For those that put retirement plans on pause during the pandemic, now may be the perfect time to move back into action. Here’s one powerful reason: it can make you feel better. Planning for retirement is the only area where people tend to be more motivated by the planning rather than excited about when it happens ( Fidelity).
