You need to pay attention to who you’re voting for and we’ve got the perfect resource for you Dear Email, Today, Americans for Justice in Palestine Action (AJP Action) released a Palestine Congressional Scorecard, which evaluates and grades Members of Congress in the House and the Senate on their record on Palestinian rights. The scorecard adopts a meticulous and scientific methodology. It takes into account legislation and Dear Colleague Letters from the 117th Congress and penalizes members for speaking at AIPAC. 12 items were used to score members of the House, and 11 for the Senate. Members are assigned scores based on their positions for each item (the scoring system is included in the scorecard). Those scores are then totaled and converted into a letter grade. Please note that the scorecard includes scores for all 436 currently sitting Members of Congress, including both voting and not voting members. 5 seats are currently vacant as a result of members who either passed away in office or resigned whose seats have not yet been filled. |

One of the reasons that make this scorecard significant is that it comes less than five months before the midterm elections. This will allow supporters of Palestinian rights to verify and compare the rhetoric and claims made by their Members of Congress to their real behavior and policy preferences, and then hold them accountable accordingly. The Palestine Congressional Scorecard seeks to deliver a message to every elected member that it’s no longer acceptable for them to give their voters empty promises on Palestine and not expect accountability. It’s unacceptable that they continue to enable Israel to maintain its illegal occupation and brutal suppression of the Palestinian people with impunity. It’s also a reminder to all elected officials that we are watching and we will hold them accountable by educating voters on their voting records. |
