Today marks the one-year anniversary of our campaign’s launch. I’m incredibly grateful for this community’s generous support, which has allowed us to knock on thousands of doors, meet voters at events all over this district, provide a meaningful challenge to Elise Stefanik, and build a grassroots network of volunteers.

To celebrate this landmark, I’d like to reflect on the message I shared with you on day one. My guiding principle remains the same today that it did at our campaign’s inception: I am driven to serve and to restore honorable leadership to my home.

Within the first 24 hours of launching, with your help, we raised just over $100,000. To continue to demonstrate the strength of our campaign and the demand for change, we have set a one-year anniversary goal of 1,000 contributions – of any amount, from first-time and recurring donors – in the next 24 hours.

We still face a challenging road ahead, but I’m so proud of the momentum we’re building as Election Day approaches.

My name is Matt Putorti and I’m running for Congress to defeat Elise Stefanik.

I’d love to tell you a little about myself. A big part of my story begins in 1927. That year, my great-grandmother, who immigrated to the United States from Italy as a child, opened a grocery store on the first floor of her house to help her family make ends meet.

Almost 100 years later, my parents operate that same store. Owning the store has embedded my family in the small town of Whitehall, in Upstate New York, for four generations.

Now, at an age just a few years older than my great-grandmother was when she started her small business, I’m running as a Democrat to represent New York’s North Country in Congress.

Whitehall and the people there shaped me. My hometown, along with my identity as a gay person and my Catholic faith, have all taught me the meaning of service, community, empathy, and patriotism. I have worked to embody these values in all that I have done in my life—from serving in AmeriCorps, to volunteering in Sudan, to leading civic organizations working on behalf of the marginalized, to taking on tough fights as a lawyer.

With this experience, I’m ready to take on a new challenge: I’m running for Congress to improve the lives of the people in the North Country and to stand up against the threat to democracy now posed by Representative Elise Stefanik and the extreme faction of the Republican party that she leads.

Elise and her extremist allies value lies above truth, personal political opportunism over the good of the people, and tribalism over patriotism.

The people of North Country—and across our country—deserve better, and I’m ready to deliver. But this campaign is not going to be easy and we have a long road ahead. That’s why I’m hoping you’ll consider contributing to support our campaign today:
