Last week, the Oversight and Reform Committee held a hearing to examine recent mass shootings, including Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, New York. Unfortunately, rather than offering meaningful solutions, Democrats used the hearing to push their radical gun control agenda that takes aim at law-abiding Americans’ Second Amendment freedoms. In response, I called out their “do something – do anything” mentality, revealed their blatant false narrative, and provided a commonsense solution to prevent future heartbreaking tragedies like Uvalde. Given my expertise on firearms and my service as a combat veteran, I strongly believe hardening our schools is the most effective method to eliminate school shootings and to protect our students – yet Democrats are ignorantly uninterested in discussing this policy. While Democrats concentrate on penalizing law-abiding Americans, my conservative colleagues and I remain dedicated to protecting and preserving Second Amendment freedoms. Before the House voted on a single gun control bill last week, I joined some of my Second Amendment Caucus colleagues in holding a press conference focused on urging all Members to oppose the Left's gun-grabbing agenda. We directly called out Democrats’ empty promise proposals that will do absolutely nothing to prevent dangerous criminals and deranged individuals from carrying out evil acts of violence. Instead, their legislation infringes on Americans’ liberties and threatens the safety of communities across the nation. 

Additionally, I announced that in the coming days, I will introduce the Repealing Excise Tax on Unalienable Rights Now (RETURN) our Constitutional Rights Act. In short, my legislation will eliminate the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition — because no American should be taxed on their enumerated rights. I look forward to formally introducing the RETURN our Constitutional Rights Act and sharing more information with you about my critical bill in the near future. 

As you may know, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) VRBPAC panel is scheduled to meet later this week to consider an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages five and under. Alarmingly, the unnecessary rush to approve an EUA for young children directly contradicts scientific data that suggests COVID poses minimal risk to kids. In fact, the survival rate for young children with COVID-19 is 99.98%. Considering many questions remain unanswered regarding the long-term side-effects of COVID vaccines, it is wholly irresponsible to approve an EUA for healthy children.

In response, I joined a letter, spearheaded by Reps. Bill Posey (R-FL) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX) along with Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ron Johnson (R-WI), demanding answers from the FDA Commissioner and Members of the VRBPAC prior to the EUA approval. It is vital that the FDA be transparent with their data before enforcing a one-size-fits-all policy on innocent children that have an extremely low risk of experiencing severe symptoms. I’m proud to join my colleagues in this effort to request key answers, pertinent data, and proper vaccine efficacy on behalf of the American people.
