Friend, you have stood up for Democratic and progressive values and candidates before; now we need you to help keep fighting. Mckayla is running a proudly progressive campaign for Congress. But if you don't want to hear about this campaign, please click here.
Team,
I'm proud that our progressive campaign for Congress is all about empowering working class communities and building resilient networks of change.
As a queer Black woman, I'm fighting alongside my community and working-class people for bold action on America's most critical issues: healthcare, education, climate change, and mass incarceration.
I have seen first hand how powerful, conservative Democrats like Steny Hoyer here in Maryland's 5th District have abandoned the communities they supposedly represent.
I don't have millions of dollars of corporate PAC money I can rely on — in fact, I don't accept a dime of corporate PAC money at all. I'm just a normal person running to fight for the interests of working-class, everyday people.
Now, more than ever, it's time for some damn change.
But we need your help to build a strong campaign! Can we count on you to officially endorse our campaign in this moment?
In 2020, we ran a grassroots primary campaign against Steny Hoyer and received more votes than any challenger in his 40-year tenure — and won the in-person vote!
Since then, Hoyer continued to bargain with our lives during the COVID-19 Pandemic. It's no surprise that Hoyer would be willing to gamble with our health, education, and livelihoods. Through his 40 years in office, he's helped build the country's mass incarceration system that has destroyed Black and brown communities.
When I was a child, I was incarcerated for missing class while dealing with grief and undiagnosed depression after losing my aunt in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon. As an adult, I co-founded the nonprofit advocacy organization Schools Not Jails to ensure no one experiences the school-to-prison pipeline like I was forced to.
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I nearly died due to deep-vein thrombosis after my pain was repeatedly dismissed, then watched as my insurance company attempted to deny covering life-saving medication.
These experiences are how I know first hand it's time for some damn change.
There is so much at stake: our children's future, the health of our communities, and the livelihoods of our families are all on the line.
We're mobilizing local leaders and relying on support from everyday people like you. We are building a progressive, diverse, and innovative campaign. Will you officially endorse our campaign now?
I'm running for Congress again — because it's time for some damn change, and I believe that, together, we can be the change.
In solidarity,
Mckayla
