Hi John,
This weekend proved what our movement is made of. On Saturday thousands took to the streets to demand action to keep our communities safe. Then on Sunday, the Senate announced a bipartisan deal on gun responsibility for the first time in decades.
This is a huge deal, John. There is finally a real opportunity for meaningful federal action to prevent gun violence. This time is different. Help turn this momentum into action: Urge your Senators to pass this historic package NOW!

The deal is far from the bold and comprehensive response that the gun violence crisis requires, but it does include a broad array of evidence-based policies that we know will save lives. There are commitments to create enhanced background checks for gun buyers aged 18-21, address the dating partner loophole, crack down on gun trafficking, fund implementation of state Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and more. Unfortunately, it also includes misguided provisions on mental health and hardening schools that appear to play into the gun lobby’s harmful arguments that try to deflect blame from the root cause of the crisis: easy access to guns.
There is so much to acknowledge about this development. But it’s important to remember that a verbal agreement is not law. Until Congress passes stronger gun laws, the gun violence epidemic will continue stealing 124 lives a day. That is why we need you to join us in flooding the Senate’s inbox to make sure they make good on this progress to finally act to keep our communities safe.

We’ve only gotten this far because of the dedication of supporters like you, who have fought with us tirelessly to demand action from our elected leaders every day, whether or not gun violence is dominating the headlines.
Thank you for being a part of the fight for a safer future.
– Renée (she/her)
P.S. We hope our Seattle area supporters will join us and our partners El Centro de la Raza, ADL, Church Council of Seattle, Mount Zion Baptist Church, the Muslim Association of Puget Sound, and the Northwest African American Museum for a candlelight vigil to honor the victims of Buffalo, Uvalde, and Orange County this Wednesday at 8pm at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle.
