John,
Between 2016 and 2020, 134 billionaires donated $236 million to Donald Trump and his super PACs, according to Americans for Tax Fairness research.[1] Many of these same billionaires are supporting insurrectionist candidates in 2022, continuing to fuel Trump’s “Big Lie” and destabilizing our democracy.
They knew full well that in supporting Trump, they were making a deal with the devil―trading attacks on our democracy and Trump’s relentless racism and bigotry for their beloved tax cuts. They made a very good personal investment, as Trump’s biggest legislative achievement—the 2017 tax giveaway—helped the fortunes of U.S. billionaires grow exponentially during the pandemic.
Now, with less than 5 months until the pivotal midterm elections, which will determine whether we’re able to unrig our tax code and hold millionaires and billionaires accountable, we’re running our latest infographic to shine a spotlight on billionaires who continue to peddle and fuel Trump’s election lies.
Check out our latest infographic below, then pitch in today to bring it to millions of people across the country.
Whether it’s Linda McMahon who helped fund the January 6th insurrection[2] or Peter Thiel[3] and Jeffrey Yass,[4] who we’ve reported on as bankrolling right-wing Senate campaigns from Ohio and Arizona to Pennsylvania, we can’t allow these billionaires and their undue influence to not be exposed to voters.
We all want to hold members of Congress accountable for their role in the attack on our Capitol and our democracy. It’s time that these right-wing billionaire donors are held accountable, too.
Pitch in today to share our latest infographic with millions of people across the country! Help us fight these billionaires using their fortunes to buy politicians and elections, destabilize our democracy, and install lawmakers who will rig the tax system to make themselves richer.
