Today, I announced that I will officially file to run for United States Senate in North Carolina. And with that, I give you my word that I will always serve our people and carry our values forward.

John, where I grew up in Lexington, your word was your bond. When you shook your neighbor’s hand and you said you’d do something, you would do it.

When I joined the Army Reserves many years ago, I gave my word to defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to stand up for our country and the values it represents.

When I served three active duty tours, including in Iraq and Afghanistan, I lived up to that word by taking on corruption, fraud, and misconduct.

And now, you have my word that I will always fight for you and your family. I will live up to the values that North Carolinians everywhere cherish. And I will never give up.

John, this campaign is about so much more than replacing a weak and ineffective U.S. Senator.

It is about answering the fundamental question about what kind of North Carolina we want to raise our children in. It is about how we can work together to make our state better for future generations.

I believe we will rise to the challenge because I know you and I trust you -- and I have you to thank for all of our success so far.

Our campaign today starts from a position of strength. We have support in all 100 North Carolina counties. We have held roundtables, town halls, meet and greets and given speeches in communities all across the state. We have the support of organizations like VoteVets, League of Conservation Voters, End Citizens United, and the Teamsters.

But most importantly, we have you. We are doing things differently -- relying on folks like you pitching in whatever you can afford to help us keep our momentum going, and no contributions from corporate PACs.

As we move forward, with your support, this campaign will only grow stronger.

You have my word.
