John, my name is Karin Norington-Reaves and I’m a former educator running for Congress in Chicago.

When I was younger, I taught in Compton, California where I mentored students from all walks of life. Some came from two-parent households. Some were being cared for by grandparents or other guardians. Some had come directly from other countries and did not speak English.

Regardless of their backgrounds, I made it my mission for every child to have a quality, equitable education. I fought for the resources they needed to learn and watched them flourish when they had what they needed to succeed.

I’ll never forget the lessons I learned or the kids who changed my life forever. By teaching, I learned a deeper understanding of all the work that needs to be done in communities like Compton and Chicago.

It lit a fire in me to rebuild these underserved communities from the ground up. I went on to help invest billions of dollars in community and professional development programs, and still today I work to create jobs for parents struggling to support their children.

Now, my goal is to lift our kids up with a well-funded public school system.

Inside the classroom, I was able to impact the lives of the 36 children I saw every day. Now, I’m a former educator running to create opportunities for every child in America in the halls of Congress. This is our chance to make it happen, John.
