Hello, John.

My name is Dr. Yadira Caraveo. I’m a pediatrician, state legislator, and daughter of immigrants, and I’m running to represent the people of Colorado’s new 8th District. I recently won the Democratic nomination for CO-08 and in just a moment, I’m going to ask you to endorse my campaign. But before I do, I want you to know why I’m in this race.

When my parents came to Colorado from a small town in Mexico, they didn’t have much. But they had a dream: that with a lot of hard work and perseverance, and by staying true to their values of caring for others, they could give their children a future they’d never imagined for themselves.

And guess what? That’s exactly what they did. They raised me and my three siblings to share their values — on a construction worker’s pay in the Adams County home they still live in — and all four of us were able to go to college and graduate in the span of a single generation. Now, their daughter is a doctor, state legislator, and running to be the first Latina Congressperson from Colorado (yes, they are very proud parents!).

So, as you can see, my parents’ dream is the American dream. And I’m running for Congress because for too many families here in Colorado, that dream is out of reach.

Whether it’s the astronomical costs of prescription drugs, big corporations taking advantage of workers or raising prices, threats to every person’s right to choose, or politicians who just aren’t listening, Colorado’s families aren’t being given what they need to thrive.

I’m running to change that, and to make loud the voices of Coloradans long ignored in Washington. But we’re up against powerful, corporate-backed opponents, and we need your help to win this.
