Good morning… I’m baaaaaaack!
On June 17, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States.

Cornyn The Compromiser
Flaunting his “A+” rating by the National Rifle Association, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas announced he was part of a group of 20 Republicans joining Democrats in promoting new restrictions on gun ownership [[link removed]].
Among other things, Cornyn’s work as “lead negotiator” will see federal tax dollars used to subsidize states that enact restrictive measures known as “red flag” laws. The NRA released a statement indicating they were unimpressed with Cornyn’s compromise.
What do you think of Cornyn’s compromise with the Democrats? Sound off in the One Click Survey at the end of today’s Texas Minute.
Sen. Cornyn is slated to attend and address the Republican Party of Texas’ biennial convention later this week in Houston, where he has reportedly sponsored the convention delegate lanyards.
For GOP convention-goers who don’t want John “Compromising” Cornyn hung around their neck, they can stop by the Texas Scorecard booth for a free lanyard… and a chance to win a firearm!
Speaking Of The GOP Convention…

EXPOSED: Season 2 The second season of EXPOSED will launch next Monday, June 20. You won’t want to miss it! DeSantis Swipes At Abbott Border Show
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling out Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for refusing to send illegal aliens back to Mexico, in the wake of heightened illegal crossings on Texas’ southern border. Brandon Waltens has the details [[link removed]].
“They let them come across and then you give them to the feds, and the feds just release them anyways,” DeSantis said, according to a report from Florida Politics. “What they need to do, Texas, is Texas should just send them back across the border.”
Attorney General Ken Paxton told Texas Scorecard in a recent interview [[link removed]] that he would be willing to defend such actions if the governor or Legislature took that step.
Abbott’s recent idea for border security included busing illegal immigrants (on their own volition) to Washington, D.C., and halting all commercial traffic at the border for additional inspections. Critics, including DeSantis, say these plans have all failed to address the real problem: illegal border-crossers who are subsequently released into the U.S. rather than deported.
Abbott has so far refused to declare the massive surge of illegal aliens an invasion.
Texas Schools Ignore School Marshal Program
Since 2013, only 84 of the more than 1,200 school districts in Texas have allowed specially trained staff to carry a gun on campus. Emily Wilkerson has the full report [[link removed]].
A recent survey from the Texas American Federation of Teachers showed that 77 percent of K-12 teachers do not want to be armed in their schools. However, that leaves almost a quarter of teachers who do want to be armed, which Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi pointed out [[link removed]] is “several times greater than the number of people in the general population who carry.”
Texas launched the School Marshal Program in 2013. It allows schools to appoint employees with a valid license to carry to take a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement-approved course to carry their firearm in school. The program was designed to reduce response times, so more lives could be saved.
In Harrold, Texas, a rural town on the border between Oklahoma and Texas, the local school is nearly 20 minutes away from the nearest police department. Harrold ISD decided the best option was to arm more than half of their staff and train them to shoot to kill an intruder.
School Trustee Sues Superintendent Over Illegal Investigation Trustee Mary Bone has filed a lawsuit against the scandal-plagued superintendent of the Round Rock Independent School District, Hafedh Azaiez. Sydnie Henry has the story [[link removed]].
At issue is Azaiez allegedly conducting an illegal investigation into board member Danielle Weston, and then hiding financial records regarding the investigation. And Finally… Special thanks to Brandon Waltens for covering the Texas Minute during my absence!
