John,
There’s a lot going on in Washington, but I wanted to make sure you saw this news concerning our coastline.
As I’m sure you recall, last October an oil pipeline leaked 25,000 gallons of crude oil into the waters off Orange County – causing serious environmental harm down the coast. The company that owns the pipeline, Amplify Energy, was later indicted for criminal negligence related to the disastrous leak.
Now, the pipeline is poised to resume operations -- without a full environmental review or public comment period. John, this is an alarming development.
Despite the aging pipeline’s risk of creating further environmental and economic damage, the Army Corps of Engineers is considering whether Amplify should be allowed to restart operations. What we really need is an
end to offshore drilling on the California coast, and allowing this pipeline to restart hastily would be a step in the wrong direction.
That’s why, alongside my fellow California representatives, I sent a letter to federal agencies pressing them to conduct a full environmental review before allowing the pipeline to operate.
I need your help raising awareness about this issue. Please add your name to join us in urging agencies to stop Amplify Energy from hastily moving ahead.
Thank you,
Mike
