Real Justice

Hey John,

The mainstream media is trying to use the recall of Chesa Boudin to claim that America is rejecting criminal legal reform.

But their claims couldn’t be further from the truth.

While we reflected on the loss last week, we also need to reflect on our WINS because Chesa’s removal wasn’t the end of our fight. Far from it.

In fact, news JUST BROKE that Chesa’s recall margins have narrowed considerably since the election.

The entire recall of Chesa was an outlier if you look at it. Stick with me here, OK?

Rob Bonta who was running for Attorney General in California, after his special appointment, won in a landslide against a candidate who was backed by a bunch of police groups.

Diana Becton, whose key messaging was around reducing racial disparities and mass incarceration, and charged a police officer for an on-duty shooting for the first time EVER in Contra Costa County, CA won her re-election for DA outright.

Kimberly Graham, a liberal progressive prosecutor, who has said she wants to divert the DA’s work in their office to similar things that Chesa was doing, advanced to the general election and has a great chance to win in IOWA.

Our partner organization, Grassroots Law PAC endorsed Sydney Kamlager and she won her congressional primary in CA-37. What was at the top of her agenda? Criminal justice.

So this bullshit narrative our opponents are peddling that people don’t care about making our justice system just is simply that. Bullshit.

Together we can continue to prove them wrong — no matter how much money they want to throw at us to tear us down. That starts by throwing a wrench in their plans to continue taking out more of our DAs.

Make your best possible donation right now. This is a big moment in our fight when you can look back and remember that you stood with us.

Love and appreciate you,

Shaun
