Hello,

This week's edition will discuss deception, school shootings, life changes and the Essay app.

** We Can’t Handle Deceit or Betrayal.
------------------------------------------------------------

The people I've seen who've been really hurt have been hurt most by deceit. That's worth thinking about.

You get walloped by life. There's absolutely no doubt about that. But I thought for a long time that people can hang handle earthquakes and cancer, and even death.

But they can't handle betrayal, and they can't handle deception.

They can't handle having the rug pulled out from underneath them by people they love and trust. That does them in, you know? It makes them ill. It hurts them. Psychologically, it damages them.

But more than that, it makes them cynical, bitter and vicious and resentful.

And then they start to act all that out in the world, and that makes it worse…

** Monday Reflections
------------------------------------------------------------

“I believe that people are stronger than their misfortunes. I believe that if you turn around and confront the vulnerability that’s part and parcel of life you’ll find within yourself a strength that will transcend that.” (Share this on Twitter ([link removed]) )

“I think your best bet in life is to shoulder your suffering, take responsibility and move forward.” (Share this on Twitter ([link removed]) )

“It might even be time to sacrifice what you love best, so that you can become who you might become, instead of staying who you are.”(Share this on Twitter ([link removed]) )

** This Week On The Podcast
------------------------------------------------------------

School Shootings and the Boy Crisis | Dr. Warren Farrell & Jordan Peterson | The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast | #261

In this episode, Dr. Farrell and I discuss issues that lead to mass homicides committed by young men. We also talk about child-rearing and boundary enforcement, discriminating between male competence and male power compulsion, and the importance of recognizing and rewarding a father’s contributions to their children’s development. Dr. Farrell and I also share a personal message to anyone who may be harboring vengeful fantasies.
Dr. Warren Farrell:

“Anyone who takes risks in life will be rejected, but our job is to prepare you as girls to take risks because there's no entrepreneur who's successful without taking risks.”

What Happens When Your Life Plans Change? | Jordan B. Peterson

Dr. Peterson:

"You're always contrasting what you want to happen with what you think is happening, and whenever there's a deviation —whenever what you want to happen isn't going on — you feel anxiety."

Essay App

Julian Peterson and our team released our new writing platform, Essay. It is designed to improve the way you draft, edit and structure your writing projects and was inspired by the essay writing guide I developed in the early 2000s for my university students struggling to produce high-quality writing.

One of our goals with Essay is to improve how a writer (or prospective writer) thinks about and communicates their ideas. We have built a writing philosophy into the software that guides the user to separate drafting and editing and focus on iteration, experimentation, and organization, to gradually and systematically improve a bad draft.
