No Decision Yet

The Supreme Court issued five opinions today, but none involved the blockbuster cases on Second Amendment rights, religious liberty or abortion.  And as the calendar ticks down to the end of June and the end of the Supreme Court’s term, Washington, D.C., is becoming increasingly tense.

Area law enforcement agencies are on alert.  A large fence that went up around the Supreme Court building last month is still up.  One radical group today launched the first of what are expected to be several “blockades” aimed at shutting down the streets around the Supreme Court.

Let’s be clear why this is happening: Democrat politicians have been using outrageous rhetoric that they know will whip left-wing anarchists and “stormtroopers” into a frenzy.

By the way, the Big Media Sunday talk shows completely ignored the assassination attempt against Justice Kavanaugh.

Just think of the irony.  Democrats are holding show trials on why a crowd ran into the Capitol 17 months ago.  And in the very next breath, they are trying to whip a left-wing crowd into a frenzy against the Supreme Court and the justices.

As you may recall, it was Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer who threatened Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, saying, “You won’t know what hit you.  You will pay a price.”  What a contrast to Donald Trump, who told his supporters to go to the Capitol “peacefully and patriotically.”

We Have A Deal

While we don’t have a decision from the Supreme Court yet on whether Roe v. Wade will be overturned, a bipartisan group of senators reached a tentative deal on proposals to improve access to mental health treatment and to improve school safety.

This deal stems from the horrific tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, and the desire of many Americans to address the issue of mass shootings.

All we have at the moment is a basic framework agreement.  We haven’t actually seen the full details yet, so I’m withholding judgment.  But here are the main points that jumped out at me:

1) There’s no ban on so-called “assault weapons.”
2) There’s no increase in the age limit for purchasing certain firearms.
3) There are enhanced background checks for gun buyers under the age of 21 that will allow for an examination of juvenile crime records.

Interestingly, a recent Quinnipiac poll found that support for banning so-called “assault weapons” has collapsed in recent years.  It’s down from 67% just four years ago to 50% today, while opposition to such a ban has increased from 29% to 45%.  And 55% of Americans do not believe our focus should be “limiting the number of guns in the country.”

While President Biden and his liberal media allies have attempted to browbeat Republicans into making concessions, the obvious danger here is for left-wing politicians who find the Second Amendment to be an impediment to their desire to confiscate firearms.

NYT:  Biden’s Gotta Go

Over the weekend, the New York Times, the flagship newspaper of the left, published a stunning report.  The Times spoke with dozens of Democrats – from typical voters to members of Congress – about their views of the Democrat Party and the man who leads it, President Joe Biden.

They found a lot of “regret and anxiety,” and a growing chorus of party activists and leaders who are saying that Joe Biden should not run again in 2024.

Some don’t want him to run because they don’t think he’s left-wing enough.  Ponder that for a moment.  But others just don’t think he’s mentally capable.

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod told the Times, “The presidency is a monstrously taxing job, and the stark reality is [Biden] would be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of a second term, and that would be a major issue.”

But it’s not just his age that has people worried.  Americans of all races and backgrounds are being crushed by skyrocketing inflation and gas prices.  Crime is rampant.  The southern border is totally out-of-control.

As a result of the policies being pushed by Joe Biden and the Democrat Congress, 83% of Americans feel the country is on the wrong track.

Rethinking Ukraine

Have you noticed the dramatic decline in the amount of press coverage of the Russian/Ukrainian war?  Have you noticed how that coverage has changed?

Just a few weeks ago, analysts were suggesting, stupidly in my view, that Ukraine could actually defeat Russia.  That made no sense, unless we’ve been lied to for 25 years about the threat Russia posed.  If Russia isn’t capable of defeating Ukraine, then what possible threat does it pose to us and our European allies, beyond its nuclear weapons?

The retired generals who were seemingly on Fox News every ten minutes have suddenly disappeared.  I guess they have gone back to their consulting work.  Far from predicting victory for Ukraine, the media coverage now paints a bleak picture, suggesting the losses being suffered by the Ukrainian military are unsustainable

Meanwhile, we have sent more than $50 billion to Ukraine, and only now are questions being asked about how that money is being spent.

A recent Morning Consult poll found that just 44% of Americans believe we have an obligation to defend Ukraine from Russia.  That’s down from 50% a few weeks ago.  Only 37% of Republicans and 33% of Independents feel “an obligation” to defend Ukraine.

I realize Liz Cheney no longer understands the worldview of Republican voters.  But what is remarkable to me is that so many good Republicans don’t understand what GOP voters believe.

It has been shocking to see how many Republican leaders were doing everything they could to push Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and “Thoroughly Modern” Milley into a larger conflict with Russia.

Why?  Because of Biden’s stellar record as commander-in-chief?  That can’t be it!

In my view, it is totally logical that most Americans don’t want to get more involved. They know how incompetent this administration is.

Why don’t more Republicans in Congress get that?

Your Pain Is Biden’s Plan

June 9, 2022 – a day that will live in infamy. That’s the day that the national average for gasoline officially broke $5.00 a gallon.  And, yes, Joe Biden did that!  In fact, your pain at the pump is all part of Biden’s plan.
