More connection during Pride month, with resources to take action on inclusive sex ed, make calls for equality, and be an engaged and active ally for Juneteenth.

All that, plus another great episode of Something to Talk About Live! You can find it all in this week's edition of the PFLAG Connects newsletter.

Let's Talk About Sex (Ed!)

Are you starting to see attacks on sex education in your newsfeeds? Do you believe sex ed is important but you have questions about what your kids should learn and when? Do you want to be prepared to handle discussions around sex ed within your school district and with friends? We got you covered!

Join our friends at Red, Wine, and Blue to hear from national experts who've taken a stand for sex-ed in their school districts, effectively working against extremists peddling misinformation and lies as a tactic to divide communities.

Sex ed provides the critical knowledge and skills kids need to make healthy choices--and this should not be controversial. Get the facts and info you need to know to stand up and speak out in your community.

Three Steps to Being A Better Ally for Juneteenth

Juneteenth is marked yearly on June 19th--and the PFLAG National office will be closed to honor the day on Monday, June 20th. So we're sharing, a bit early, three steps for being a better ally for Juneteenth 2022:

  1. Learn: Take the time to learn about Juneteenth and its importance in history, especially if you haven’t learned about it in the past. Additionally, read about some of the stories and accomplishments of Black LGBTQ+ heroes and pioneers. Some articles you can take a look at include 16 queer black pioneers who made history,” “10 Black Queer Trailblazers You Should Know,” and “Black Heroes of the LGBTQ Community.”
  2. Watch: Rewatch our 2021 video series What Makes Pride, hosted by Melissa Harris-Perry, which is dedicated to uplifting the work of LGBTQ+ BIPOC people, communities, and organizations. Revisit last year’s Something To Talk About Live! about a father and his two queer sons, and be sure to tune into this week’s episode on June 16th (see more below).
  1. Share: Check out this guide on some ways to honor Juneteenth on your social media channels. Visit (and share) this directory from Refinery29 on tools you can use to find Black-owned businesses in your community.

Let's Fight for #EqualityForAll!

Have you signed up to join us in making weekly calls for equality? Now is the time!

We're making weekly calls into Senate offices to tell them we need federal anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people before Summer Recess. We need to make sure Senators hear from us--people who care about LGBTQ+ equality– saying we urge them to take action NOW. Even if your Senators are allies, call them, email them, and tweet them your thanks; they need to know that the majority of people in this country support protections from discrimination.

Recognizing Juneteenth

Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans, has been celebrated since 1866. It did not become a federal holiday in the U.S. until 2021.

Join us this Thursday, June 16th at 4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT for Something to Talk About Live where we will be discussing Karen Marie’s article in The Buckeye Flame, “Pride Month Would Not Exist as We Know it if Juneteenth Did Not Happen” with Earl Fowlkes, President/CEO, Center for Black Equity and Chandra Clayborn of PFLAG Sandy Springs, who is also a facilitator for PFLAG Connects: Communities Black/African American meetings and owner of the Lesbian Moms Club.

You can watch live on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
