| Dear Friend, The GOP plan to take the House and the Senate in November has leaked, and it’s terrifying. Republicans intend to install an “army” of poll workers with a direct phone line to lawyers who are ready to challenge any and all election results in battleground districts.(1) This is the outcome of Donald Trump’s Big Lie -- convince conservatives that election fraud is widespread, and then use that lie to put into question every election result, everywhere possible. It has never been more important to elect representatives who are willing to defend our democracy against this slow-moving coup directly tied to the January 6 insurrection. Courage California has always produced large, effective election campaigns, but 2022’s must be bigger than ever. And here’s the problem: Many people wait until October, when the election is right around the corner, to donate. But we need to have our funding in place now to put our campaigns into motion. Imagine MAGA-minded extremists staking out ballot drop boxes to scare away voters.(2) Poll “watchers” in heavily BIPOC communities asking to see ID and challenging votes.(3) Election result deniers spreading disinformation in long lines at the ballots.(4) These are the tactics the GOP is already putting into place. Progressives must fight back. We are in the midst of polling potential Central Valley and Inland Empire voters to hone the best messaging for the highest turnout. We are coordinating with partners for advertisements, text messaging programs, and more, to make sure that the margin of victory is so high, it can’t be challenged.
