My name is Guhan Venkatu and I am one of the founding board members of PublicSource. Many of you may not realize that PublicSource actually started in 2011 under the fiscal sponsorship of Pittsburgh Filmmakers. In 2015, we secured our own 501(c)3 status and, since then, we’ve continued to grow organizationally and journalistically.
I’ve spent much of my career examining economic issues, and I am a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh. That’s how I was introduced to PublicSource’s first editor, Sharon Walsh, and for eight years now, I have been serving on PublicSource’s board.
When Sharon first approached me about becoming involved in PublicSource, I jumped at the opportunity to support an organization dedicated to unflinching and uncompromising reporting on the social, political, and economic issues important to our region. This kind of reporting is critical to helping Pittsburghers make better decisions for themselves and their families, as well as for our wider community.
Unfortunately, it is also in increasingly short supply. That’s why I believe that the work the journalists at PublicSource do, and their desire to be a trusted source of objective information about our region, is more important now than it has ever been before.
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday so I am asking you to join me in donating. PublicSource has a goal to get on the GiveBigPittsburgh.com leaderboard among other major area nonprofits. To do that, we need at least 100 of our readers to give a donation here. Be it $5 or $10 or more, every donor gets us closer to our goal for the day. Plus, your donation will be doubled, getting us closer to our NewsMatch goal.
